The Revolution of the Generations

Most people would say that history repeats itself; this statement proves true in the world of Tattoo art. Although, tattoos are no longer viewed as under-class, they are still not respected by the likes of everyone. As Myrna Armstrong, EdD, a professor at the School of Nursing, Texas Tech University says "Tattooing gives people the opportunity to express their identity. It's a way for them to feel special and unique." (Strange 1) In addition, tattoos aren’t considered such a taboo in the work place either. Many modern employers take it upon themselves to change their dress code policies to take advantage of young talent. Research shows “About half of people in their 20s have either a tattoo or a body piercing other than traditional earrings, according to a study published in June in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.” (“Body Art…” 1) Together, we have traveled from Ancient Egyptian tattooing, to South Sea Pirates, and Middle-Eastern Henna art. This brings us to our last stop of tattoo art culture: modern-day tattoos. Today’s Modern day tattoos come from everywhere in the culture’s rich history. Although, this generation has prevailed more in the sterilization sides of the practice, the art is still the same. There are all sorts of types of tattoos in the world ranging from the various cultures that we have talked about, Egyptian, Piracy, and Middle-Eastern work. The acclimations of art do not stop simply stop at those though, nowadays, you can get a tattoo of just about anything. And with art evolving from generation to generation, it’s become easier to say that Tattooing is become the art of a revolution.
